Why Choose Scott’s Hotrods Rear Steer IFS?

Scott’s Hotrods Rear Steer Independent Front Suspension (IFS) is NOT a Mustang II kit and was never based on Mustang II suspension geometry. Rear Steer means the rack & pinion is positioned behind the crossmember, providing the packaging and clearance needed for many early hot rods and classic vehicles while delivering true modern independent front suspension performance.

Every Scott’s Rear Steer IFS is engineered specifically for the vehicle and features heavy-duty Tubular Upper & Lower A-Arms, a 100% TIG-welded one-piece crossmember, and your choice of Coilovers or Airbags with external shocks. We do NOT use three-piece Mustang II-style crossmembers with spring-pocket hats, and we do NOT use T-bolt slider adjusters that can loosen or allow the alignment to move. Our suspension is designed to be precisely aligned and securely locked into position so it cannot simply be knocked out of adjustment. Every kit is built using 5/8″ or larger Grade 8 hardware for the strength and durability expected from a Scott’s Hotrods suspension system.

No Mustang II. No universal shortcuts. Just a true, vehicle-specific Rear Steer IFS engineered and built by Scott’s Hotrods.

Rear Steer IFS Kit

Scott’s Hotrods Pre-1934 Rear Steer Weld-On Independent Front Suspension (IFS) is engineered specifically for early hot rods and classics where limited space prevents the use of a traditional front-mounted rack & pinion. Available with Aldan American Coilovers or Slam Specialties Airbags, every Rear Steer IFS is built around your specific vehicle, drivetrain, track width and desired ride height—not adapted from a generic Mustang II design. Our proprietary 100% TIG-welded, one-piece crossmember and heavy-duty tubular A-Arms deliver the strength, precise suspension geometry and modern handling your early hot rod deserves.

Whether you’re building a Model A, ’32 Ford, early Chevy, Plymouth, Dodge or another pre-1934 classic, Scott’s Hotrods can engineer a Rear Steer IFS around your project. From traditional hot rods and comfortable long-distance cruisers to high-horsepower street machines and frame-laying air ride builds, you get modern independent front suspension performance without compromising the packaging requirements or character of an early vehicle. No universal shortcuts. No Mustang II. Just vehicle-specific suspension engineered and manufactured in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Scott’s Hotrods believes in Quality, Creativity, Engineering & Workmanship.  These qualities go into all of its suspension kits.  Scott’s does not settle for inferior materials or products and neither should you when it comes to the suspension on your custom hot rod.  No matter how pretty your paint sparkles, how plush your seats feel or how much power you say you have under the hood, if your vehicle handles and rides poorly, nothing else matters.

Scott’s Hotrods manufactures the BEST Independent Front Suspension (IFS) for ANY Year, Make & Model vehicle from 1925 to 1987.  No other suspension manufacturer comes close.  Scott’s IFS kits have never been and will never be Mustang II Kits.  Scott’s True IFS kits are not universal and are designed for each and every vehicle application.  Although many kits appear very similar, all the dimensions and geometry are engineered to work for specific applications.

All of the IFS kits are built from scratch materials in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Metal is sourced from trusted, quality sources and delivered weekly.  Scott’s in-house CNC Mills and Lathes cut many of the components used on each and every kit including the Cross Tubes, Ball Joint Cups, Rack & Shock Bungs, Stainless Steel Adjustable Upper A-Arm Rod Ends and A-Arm Tubes.  The in-house HD Plasma table cuts all of the tabs.  Every IFS kit is 100% TIG-welded and Quality Checked before it is packed up and shipped out to the customer.

Scott’s stands behind ALL of the parts it manufactures. Other parts that Scott’s does not manufacture such as brakes, steering racks, ball joints, brake flex lines, power steering lines, bearings, seals, etc. carry their own manufacturers’ warranties. Scott’s is not responsible for these items outside of their original warranty.
