Correct Steering Geometry & Reduce Bump Steer

Scott’s Hotrods Rack & Pinion Steering Rack Extensions are designed to help correct steering geometry and reduce bump steer in custom IFS and rack & pinion steering installations.

Proper rack width is critical to suspension geometry. When the steering rack’s inner pivot points do not properly align with the suspension geometry, the tie rods can move through a different arc than the control arms as the suspension travels. The result can be toe change through suspension travel—commonly known as bump steer.

Scott’s Rack Extensions allow builders to increase the effective width of the steering rack to better position the inner tie-rod pivot points for the suspension being used.

Why Rack Width Matters

Installing a rack & pinion isn’t simply a matter of placing the rack between the frame rails. The relationship between the rack pivot points, tie rods and control-arm pivot points directly affects how the vehicle steers as the suspension moves.

An incorrectly sized or positioned rack can cause the wheels to toe in or out during suspension travel. Correctly sizing the rack and steering linkage helps minimize unwanted toe change and provides more predictable steering behavior.

Scott’s Rack Extensions give builders another tool for properly configuring the steering system around the suspension geometry rather than compromising the suspension around an incorrectly sized rack.

Get the Steering Geometry Right

Scott’s Hotrods Rack & Pinion Steering Rack Extensions provide a simple solution for correcting rack width in custom steering and suspension applications.

Available in lengths from 1″ to 2″ for several popular manual, power and rear-steer rack & pinion applications, Scott’s Rack Extensions can help properly position the steering pivots, minimize bump steer and improve overall front suspension geometry.
