Chris Murray’s 1965 Ford F100 Patina Truck

Don’t let the weathered exterior fool you. Chris Murray’s 1965 Ford F100 Patina Truck combines the unmistakable character of an old farm truck with a completely modern performance foundation underneath. Built by Scott’s Hotrods ‘n Customs, this F100 retains its naturally aged appearance while hiding a complete Scott’s 1961-1966 F100 Coilover Chassis, Gen III Ford Coyote engine, 10R80 transmission, modern Independent Front Suspension, rack & pinion steering and Moser Ford 9-inch rear end underneath.

The goal wasn’t to turn this truck into something overly polished or erase decades of character. Instead, Scott’s preserved the patina while completely transforming the way the F100 sits, steers, handles, stops and drives. Extensive rust repair was performed on the body and floor, then carefully blended back into the existing finish so the repairs disappear into the original weathered appearance. The result looks like an old work truck on the outside—but underneath, it’s an entirely different animal.

Low Without Cutting the Bed

This 1965 F100 sits about as low as you can go without modifying the bed or inner fenders. Rather than cutting up the truck simply to achieve an aggressive stance, the Scott’s Hotrods Coilover Chassis was configured to position the body low while maintaining usable clearance and preserving the original bed structure.

That’s an important distinction for builders who want a low 1961-1966 Ford F100 without necessarily wanting a radical air-ride build or extensive bed modifications. The Coilover chassis delivers the stance while providing modern suspension control, predictable handling and a ride designed for a truck that’s actually going to be driven.

Scott’s 1961-1966 Ford F100 Coilover Chassis

The foundation of the build is a complete Scott’s Hotrods 1961-1966 Ford F100 Coilover Chassis featuring 2″x4″ mandrel-bent frame rails, an 8-point chassis X-member, factory-style cab and bed mounting provisions and 100% TIG-welded construction. Rather than rebuilding the original 1965 frame and adapting modern components to it, the Scott’s chassis provides a completely new foundation engineered around the finished truck.

Up front, Scott’s True Independent Front Suspension features a heavy-duty one-piece crossmember, Tubular Upper & Lower A-Arms, CNC-machined adjustable upper A-Arm rod ends, built-in anti-dive and Aldan American Single-Adjustable Coilovers. Power rack & pinion steering, forged steel spindles, a 1″ solid sway bar and 12″ Wilwood disc brakes with 4-piston calipers complete the modern front suspension package.

1965 F100 Gen III Coyote

Gen III Coyote + 10R80 Power

Under the hood, the old-school F100 gets modern Ford power from a Gen III Coyote engine backed by a 10R80 automatic transmission. Scott’s Coyote engine mounts and dropout 10R80 transmission mount integrate the modern drivetrain directly into the chassis, creating a clean foundation for one of the most popular drivetrain combinations in modern Ford restomod builds.

The combination of Coyote horsepower, the close-ratio 10-speed automatic and Scott’s modern chassis completely changes the personality of the truck. It may look like something that spent the last 60 years sitting behind a barn, but turn the key and this Coyote-swapped 1965 F100 delivers the power, drivability and highway manners expected from a modern performance vehicle.

1965 F100 4-Bar Rear Suspension

Parallel 4-Bar + Moser Ford 9-Inch

Out back, the Scott’s Parallel 4-Bar Rear Suspension locates a Moser Ford 9-inch equipped with 31-spline axles and a 3.70 TrueTrac third member. Machined link bars and CNC-machined right- and left-hand-threaded rod ends provide strength and adjustability, while another set of 12″ Wilwood disc brakes provides modern stopping power at the rear.

Combined with the Scott’s IFS up front, the 4-Bar transforms the F100 into a complete front-to-rear suspension package. That’s particularly important with modern Coyote power—the goal isn’t simply making horsepower; it’s building a truck capable of steering, stopping and putting that power to the pavement.

Built to Drive, Not Just Look Cool

The beauty of this 1965 Ford F100 restomod is the contrast. The exterior proudly wears decades of age and character, while everything that determines how the truck drives has been thoroughly modernized. Stainless steel brake and fuel lines, a Scott’s aluminum EFI fuel tank with in-tank pump, Borgeson steering linkage and Scott’s power steering lines complete the chassis package.

The truck rides on 20×9 Schott Performance wheels wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 tires, while Vintage Air, Dakota Digital gauges, Scott’s custom stainless headers and exhaust, and MagnaFlow mufflers add modern comfort and performance without taking away the personality that makes the truck unique.

Want Your 1961-1966 F100 to Sit & Drive Like This?

You don’t need to duplicate Chris Murray’s Patina Truck to take advantage of the same foundation. Scott’s Hotrods manufactures Built-To-Order complete chassis for 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966 Ford F100 trucks, allowing each chassis to be configured around the individual vehicle, drivetrain, suspension, wheel and tire package, desired ride height and intended use.

Whether you’re building a Coyote-swapped F100, classic Ford street cruiser, high-horsepower restomod, Pro Touring pickup or a slammed custom, Scott’s can build the chassis around your vision. Choose a Coilover chassis for responsive handling and a fixed performance stance, or step up to a SuperSlam Airbag Chassis when adjustable ride height and an ultra-low stance are the priority.

Old-School Patina. Modern F100 Performance.

Chris Murray’s 1965 Ford F100 Patina Truck proves that a high-end restomod doesn’t have to wear flawless paint to showcase serious craftsmanship. Beneath the weathered exterior is a completely modern Scott’s Hotrods foundation featuring Independent Front Suspension, rack & pinion steering, Coilovers, Parallel 4-Bar rear suspension, Moser Ford 9-inch, Wilwood brakes and Gen III Coyote power. The rust may look old, but virtually everything that makes this truck go, turn and stop has been brought into the modern era.

It’s the best of both worlds: the character and personality of a genuine 1965 Ford F100 combined with the ride quality, handling, horsepower and drivability of a modern performance truck.

Looks like a farm truck. Drives like anything but.
