Why Choose a Scott’s Hotrods 1949-1951 Mercury Chassis?

The 1949-1951 Mercury is one of the most legendary platforms in custom-car history. Chopped tops, shaved trim, frenched lights and an impossibly low stance helped define the classic Merc Lead Sled—but iconic styling doesn’t mean you have to live with 75-year-old chassis, steering and suspension technology. Scott’s Hotrods builds a completely modern, vehicle-specific 1949-1951 Mercury Chassis designed to give your custom Merc the stance it deserves with the handling, ride quality and drivability of a modern vehicle.

Every Scott’s 1949-1951 Mercury Chassis is built-to-order around your specific car, drivetrain, wheel and tire combination, desired ride height and intended use. Our chassis combines Scott’s proprietary Independent Front Suspension (IFS), rack & pinion steering, heavy-duty Tubular Upper & Lower A-Arms, equal-length Parallel 4-Bar rear suspension and a Moser Ford 9-inch rear end. Choose premium Coilovers for a low static cruiser or go all-in with our SuperSlam Airbag Chassis when your vision calls for a Mercury that lays frame or rocker. The current chassis already includes Scott’s IFS, 4-Bar, Moser 9-inch, mandrel-bent rails and 100% TIG-welded construction, so this copy is reinforcing the hardware that’s actually on the page.

This isn’t a universal frame modified to fit your Merc. Scott’s engineers the complete chassis specifically for the 1949, 1950 and 1951 Mercury, taking suspension geometry, drivetrain placement, track width, wheel clearance, ride height and stance into consideration from the beginning. Whether you’re building a period-inspired chopped custom, traditional Lead Sled, modern restomod or an all-out show car, Scott’s gives you the modern foundation to make your Merc sit lower, drive better and perform like no original Mercury ever could.

1949-1951 Mercury Custom Chassis Overview

Scott’s Hotrods manufactures one of the most complete 1949-1951 Mercury Custom Chassis available, engineered specifically for builders who refuse to compromise between stance and drivability. Every chassis is built-to-order specifically for your Mercury rather than pulled from a shelf as a one-size-fits-all frame. Your drivetrain, suspension configuration, track width, wheels, tires and desired ride height are all considered when we engineer the chassis for your individual build.

At the front, Scott’s proprietary Independent Front Suspension utilizes a heavy-duty one-piece 2″x4″x3/16″-wall crossmember, massive 1-1/8″x.250-wall DOM Tubular Upper & Lower A-Arms, built-in anti-dive and modern rack & pinion steering. Out back, our proven Parallel 4-Bar rear suspension controls a Moser Ford 9-inch rear end with heavy-duty adjustable DOM link bars. The chassis is constructed from mandrel-bent 2″x4″ frame rails with an 8-point tubular center crossmember, and every Scott’s-manufactured chassis is 100% TIG welded for strength, rigidity and precision.

Choose a Coilover Mercury Chassis for a low static stance with excellent road manners, or choose the SuperSlam Mercury Chassis when your goal is to put your Lead Sled down on the pavement. From a traditional chopped ’49 Merc to a modern high-horsepower ’51 Mercury custom, Scott’s builds the chassis around the car you want to create—not the other way around.

Traditional Flathead Style or Modern Horsepower—Build It Your Way

Your custom Merc should be built around your vision, and that includes what’s under the hood. Scott’s can engineer your 1949-1951 Mercury Chassis around a wide variety of Ford, GM and Mopar powerplants, from traditional Ford combinations to modern 5.0L Coyote, LS, LT, HEMI and high-horsepower performance drivetrains. Engine placement, transmission fitment, steering clearance, suspension geometry, exhaust routing and ride height are considered during the chassis design process.

That means you don’t have to design the rest of the car around a generic frame. Tell us what you’re building, how you want it to sit and what you want powering it—we build the chassis around the project.

Building a Custom Merc or Traditional Lead Sled?

Few cars have influenced the custom-car world like the 1949-1951 Mercury. Chopped, shaved, nosed, decked and sitting inches off the pavement, the classic Merc Lead Sled has represented custom-car attitude for generations. Scott’s Hotrods lets you keep everything that makes these cars iconic while replacing the original chassis technology underneath with a completely modern, purpose-built foundation.

Whether your vision is a traditional chopped Mercury Lead Sled, a mild custom cruiser or a modern restomod with serious horsepower, Scott’s builds your chassis around the finished car you actually want. Run a low static ride height on Coilovers or take the stance all the way with a SuperSlam Airbag Chassis engineered to lay frame or rocker. You get modern IFS, rack & pinion steering, Parallel 4-Bar rear suspension, modern disc brake options and the strength of a rigid full chassis—all hidden underneath the unmistakable body of a classic custom Merc.

Want Your 1949-1951 Mercury to Lay Rocker?

Scott’s Hotrods SuperSlam 1949-1951 Mercury Chassis was made for the Lead Sled. Engineered from the ground up specifically for air suspension, the SuperSlam gives your custom Merc the ultra-low, pavement-hugging stance these cars are famous for without treating airbags as an afterthought. This isn’t a Coilover chassis with bags substituted for springs—the suspension and chassis are designed around the travel, geometry and packaging required for a properly engineered air suspension system.

Air it out and put your chopped Merc down on the rocker. Raise it to driving height and hit the highway. The SuperSlam combines Scott’s proprietary Independent Front Suspension, rack & pinion steering, equal-length Parallel 4-Bar rear suspension and Moser Ford 9-inch with a purpose-built air suspension system designed to deliver both show-stopping stance and real-world drivability.

Whether you’re building a traditional 1949 Mercury Lead Sled, chopped 1950 Merc, custom 1951 Mercury, modern restomod or radical show car, Scott’s SuperSlam Chassis gives you the stance that made the Merc legendary with modern suspension technology underneath it.

Lay it out. Raise it up. Drive it. That’s SuperSlam.

Build the Ultimate 1949-1951 Merc Custom

The 1949, 1950 and 1951 Mercury helped define what a custom car could be. Nearly eight decades later, these cars still look incredible chopped, shaved and sitting impossibly low—but the chassis underneath doesn’t have to remain stuck in 1950. A Scott’s Hotrods 1949-1951 Mercury Chassis combines timeless Lead Sled style with modern Independent Front Suspension, rack & pinion steering, Parallel 4-Bar rear suspension, Moser Ford 9-inch strength and your choice of Coilover or SuperSlam Airbag suspension. Whether your Merc is a traditional custom cruiser or a radical modern build, the goal is simple: make it sit right, make it drive right and make it unforgettable.

Every Scott’s Mercury chassis is built-to-order specifically for your vehicle, drivetrain, wheels, stance and intended use. The chassis features mandrel-bent frame rails, heavy-duty DOM suspension components, precision CNC-machined parts, Grade 8 hardware and 100% TIG-welded construction, all built around the specifications of your custom Merc. From a low static ’49 cruiser to a chopped, rocker-laying SuperSlam Lead Sled, Scott’s Hotrods gives one of the most iconic custom cars ever built the modern foundation it deserves.
